Vintage Marx Lithograph Metal Doll's Bungalow 1952 (Swansea Cottage).

 25 February 2025

My cute little Louis Marx metal Bungalow was manufactured in Great Britain in 1952. Marx called their house 'Doll's Bungalow' but it's also referred to as 'Swansea Cottage' by many, probably because that's where it was manufactured, as seen on the original box.

One room bungalow.

It only consists of one room that isn't divided by a wall but has two designated areas, a bedroom and a lounge room. The bungalow came with polythene furniture for the bedroom, lounge room and outdoor setting. The lounge room has seven pieces of furniture, the bedroom suite six pieces and the outdoor furniture consists of four pieces or five if you count the umbrella as a separate piece that sits above the table. The bedroom and lounge furniture are actually too many pieces for the size of the bungalow.

One room with a bedroom suite and lounge setting.

I've decorated the bungalow with some original furniture from Blue-Box and Cumberland Toys Home Beauty Furniture made by Endeavor Industrial Co. Ltd in Hong Kong, they made plastic dollhouse furniture and other toys. The rest of the decor is what I already had in my dollhouse stash.

Brightly coloured and so cute.

It's quite a nice little dollhouse with vibrant colours and lots of graphics. It's well preserved for its age being over 70 years old.

The Marx name is seen only on the top side of the chimney.

I've had this little bungalow for a few years now and I'll eventually get around to sourcing the rest of the original pieces of furniture, but for now, it displays well with the furniture it does have.

UPDATE: I've since found some more original furniture and will post updated photos soon.
